For your first prenatal visit, you will see our Physician Assistant DeLaney for your obstetrical history. This visit is scheduled starting around 5 weeks or later. She will obtain your health history, the father of the baby’s health history, and family history. At this visit, you will be given a bag with helpful pregnancy information and other goodies. Bailey will also review your health insurance plan with you so you will understand the costs involved with your pregnancy.
We will schedule your appointment with Dr. Ensley between 8 and 12 weeks, which is the best time you can first see your baby on the ultrasound that Dr. Enlsey will perform. You are welcome to bring family with you to this visit.
At your first visit, Dr. Ensley will review your medical history with you. He will then do a routine pelvic exam with a Pap smear and test for for chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomonas, bacterial vaginosis and yeast. It is very important to check for these infections because if you do have an infection and it goes untreated, it could lead to preterm labor. Then is the exciting part because you will get to see your unborn child on an ultrasound performed by Dr. Ensley. After the ultrasound, you can go to our in-office lab PathGroup for non-invasive prenatal blood tests. You may select to do a test to know the gender of your baby.
Please call our office at (317)887-9800 as soon as you know you will not be able to make your appointment. Other patients are trying to get into see Dr. Ensley so it allows us to get them in sooner. You may also cancel your appointment when you get a text or email from us as a reminder of your appointment.
Dr. Ensley is affiliated with Franciscan Hospital Indianapolis and Franciscan Surgery Center.
Dr. Ensley recommends that a female patient first come in at about 14 years old. This gives a few years where the doctor can get to know your daughter and review age-appropriate health information with her. Your daughter would not require a pelvic exam until she is sexually active, has significant problems, or reaches age 18 to 21.
As long as you do not have a full flow, you may still come to your appointment. If there is too much blood, any test that is performed could come back obscured. Please call to reschedule or cancel your appointment on your text/email reminder. You can always ask us if you are uncertain.
We offer extremely reasonable rates for self-pay patients unlike other providers. We do collect payment prior to the appointment. You may request a list of our self-pay pricing.
If you have an urgent matter, you may call (877) 300-3868. The answering service will take your information and page Dr. Ensley or DeLaney. He will then call you back. He will probably call from a number that is unlisted, anonymous or identity-blocked. If you have any call blocking on your phone, he will not be able to return your call, so you must remove any blocking that is active in order to hear back fom Dr. Ensley.
During your annual wellness visit, we will review your medications with you to see if they are still working for you and then electronically submit prescriptions with refills for a year to your pharmacy.
